It Was Not the Christmas Market We Expected to See in Ljubljana

I am sure most of you cherish memories of Christmas markets and this unique Christmas spirit they carry. We all have lovely memories from such markets, but most of them date back from years ago. Nowadays some Christmas markets are not what they used to be, or maybe the markets did not change - we did and changed them.

These places were presenting people who create things, people who prepared for months to show the fruits of their creativity and work. But what happened to those markets full of artisans and original handmade gifts that you can buy? Where is the Christmas spirit, the smell of cinnamon rolls, gingerbread cookies, punch, cotton candy, and candied apples? When was everything replaced by stands selling one and the same things - cheap hats, gloves, socks, magnets, and crappy souvenirs that you can buy all year round? And when did the burgers, pizza, and pancakes become the best Xmas treats?

We visited Ljubljana during the Christmas holidays in these days between Xmas and New Year when we all have a bit more free time. We expected that this young and vibrant city would burst with creativity during the most giving season. Doesn’t anyone want to be creative or original anymore?, or just the people who actually do cannot afford to go public? Sadly, the market was disappointing!

In our YouTube video, we will take you with us on Ljubljana streets to see what we saw. It is a bit different from the popular excited opinions about most Xmas markets. We are sorry if some of you don’t like our video and opinion; it’s not meant to be offensive; it’s just a disappointing observation. Still, Ljubljana is a beautiful city, and we always enjoy visiting it!
