We have been to Ljubljana so many times but never had the chance to go and see Ljubljana castle. It has been always something else that needs doing or fixing and we have been postponing this visit for a long time.
Today we finally decided that we will dedicate our day to the landmark of the Slovenian capital—Ljubljana Castle, or Ljubljanski grad, as locals call it. Looking at the castle from the Prešeren Square of Ljubljana, it looks quite impressive. You can see the caste from many angles when you walk on the main pedestrian street of Ljubljana. The castle has stood on the hill above Ljubljana since the 11th century and has such a rich history - it had been a prison, a hospital, and a home to the poorest people of Ljubljana, which the Slovenian government decided to settle here for some time.
Since 1970 a reconstruction of the caste has started and it is still undergoing. Is the caste worth seeing currently? The ticket is 15 EUR for an adult or 19 EUR if you also use the funicular. Is it worth paying this price to explore what’s inside?
We made a short video about our visit, which you can watch on our YouTube channel to hear our honest opinion. We are in love with Slovenia and love exploring its historical and beautiful places.
