Our first two winters in the house we bought were very cold. The first thing we did when we got the keys was to disconnect the old hazardous diesel heating system and remove all the ugly radiators and pipes. They looked really awful, but then we did not know the real state of the house roof.
When winter started, we discovered that the roof does not have any thermal and hydro insulation, and we naively trusted the seller that the roof was fine and does not leak. Well … it does, and it’s hard to warm up a house with such a roof.
Anyway, we started renovating the first floor, but without proper heating in the house and with such a roof, it was really hard to work in the cooler months. The temperature in the house was constantly very low, and we were spending most of the days trying to do some physical work to warm up. Some mornings we would wake up and the thermometer in the bedroom would barely reach 8-9 degrees Celsius. Our electricity bill was quite high because of the electric heaters we were using, and one had to run most of the time so the walls could dry.
In the same time, the wood stove that we bought two years ago was “sitting” in its box in our garage, waiting for the moment when we will complete the first floor. It was never even unpacked; we bought it thinking the renovation would go faster. Alas, it took two years, and the moment finally came! The wood stove is already in the house. Although it was a hard job, it weighed 93 kilos, and it wasn’t easy to move it inside. Then the stovepipes in the shops did not match the height we had to connect the stove to the chimney, so we had to improvise and cut them and use thermal spray to mask the marks, and we were done! We couldn’t wait to have some proper heating and wanted to share this moment with you - the moment we will light our wood stove for the first time. It's in our YouTube video. Watch this episode to see if our heating problem is solved!
We hope the guy who inspected our chimney was right that everything is fine and we can use our wood stove properly. Not only that, but we can’t wait to feel some real warmth in our house; our cat Miki can’t wait to curl up in front of the fireplace and have a nice nap. :)
We will start the curing process of the wood stove with a small fire, and later we will see how it goes … If you enjoy watching this video, please support our YouTube channel by clicking the Like and Subscribe buttons; your support will mean a lot to us! Thanks for reading, and enjoy watching!
