We ran out of options! | We are installing an Electric Fence!

- Posted in YouTube by

Since we started gardening two years ago, our garden has been frequently visited by wild animals - roe deer, rabbits, and squirrels. All of them steal or eat what they find, but the worst thing is that sometimes they are just curious and destroy the plants and trees without even eating what they have crushed.

Last year we didn't harvest any whole cabbage, most of our peppers were eaten and the Cantaloupe melons were chewed and left, the roe deer didn't like them cos they were not ripen. We thought ah well, we live close to the forest, probably our land is a part of their territory, so we have to share our production. OK, we love wild animals and we will sacrifice part of our production as good neighbors. :)

But this year they started really early, there was lush green grass everywhere, but they decided to scratch their teeth on a small apricot tree we just planted and left it without any branch or tree bark. Then the potatoes that just started growing - one morning we found all the tops of the plants eaten; the same happened to the pepper plants. That was just too much! We had enough! We tried everything - nets, covers, repellers, nothing worked. They always found a way to get to the food! We love wild animals and wouldn’t harm any of them, we just want to keep them away of our crops because we put too much effort in our garden and our crops are not their regular food, it’s human’s food which we grow so we can be as much as possible self-sufficient.

In the end, after all unsuccessful attempts to save our vegetables, we decided we will install an electric fence to keep them away. We ordered the fence and installed it. It has been just a week, but for now the garden is quiet and the plants are whole. We will see if the peace and quiet will continue. We are hoping that this fence will also stop the neighborhood's cats that keep coming to use our garden as a cat toilet because the soil quality is up to their taste.

Watch our video to see what fence we chose, how we installed it, and how much we spent. We will follow up this installation with an update in a few months, so if you want to see more, please subscribe to our YouTube channel and support our videos. All likes and comments are appreciated as always!
