After installing the new windows last year, our old house renovation continues. Will the house collapse? We have to knock down a wall on the first floor, but it's a 40-year-old house, and we are not sure if the house construction is stable enough.
It's a scary moment, but we have to do it if we want to continue according to our plan. We want to make the first floor space brighter and more spacious, and without removing this wall, this couldn’t happen, so we decided we will go ahead. There is a huge problem with builders here in Slovenia - they are expensive, and it’s really hard to find people available to work. After months of searching, we finally have a builder, and we start working!
We also have to remove the old floor screed to add floor insulation and to put in new cables for the electrical installation. The old cables are a mess, and it’s not safe to use them.
And finally, the water—our house only had rainwater in use, so we have to connect to the municipality's drinkable water. This requires digging and new pipes, but nowadays living without running water is hard. The rainwater reservoir of the house is quite big, but there is no filtering system, and the water is not usable; it actually stinks.
Lots of work ahead, but we knew we were buying an old house that requires lots of changes before it becomes a livable place. We are filming the whole house renovation, so if you are curious how we progress, please subscribe to our YouTube channel to receive regular updates.
